Horses and Other Farm Animals

Horses and Other Farm Animals

Daily question: Have you been to a farm?
Toys:
Fisher Price Little People Farm, House and Garage. My Little Ponies.

Snack: Peanut Butter Crackers and milk.

Today we learned about the letter H. The students shouted out words that start with H. We went on a scavenger hunt around the class for different "H" words. The students were really excited when they found a phrase with two H's. Happy Harvest!

We learned that H the horse is stung by a hornet and has to hurry to the hospital. "H h h" in the sound his hooves make (children move arms up and down with hands curved mlike horses hooves while making the Ha ha ha sound).

Miss Jessica taught us about Horses. We learned that baby horses are called foals. Horses can be many different colors. They like to eat hay and oats. Smaller horses are called ponies. Many of the children have ridden on a pony!

We enjoyed reading books and talking about what a farm is. In the book, No Milk!, a city boy goes to a farm and want's cow's milk and does many things to try and get some--in the end he learned how to milk a cow. We talked about where cow's milk comes from and how a cow is milked while eating our snack and drinking milk. We learned that milk is used in other foods like butter, cheese, and ice cream!

We also loved the big book called "Number Farm." This book is a seek and find. We had fun finding 1 barn, 2 tractors, 3 kittens, etc.

Activity Page: Today we learned about following a maze to get the Horse to the hospital and each child colored theirs.

Songs:
Old MacDonald

We read a book about Old McDonald and then sang the song several times. The students enjoyed acting like each animal in the song. We discussed how "Ee I Ee I O" are all vowels and how every word has a vowel in it.
This is everyone acting like a pig!

Show N' Teach:  This is a chance to practice our oral language skills, discover, learn, and interact with one another.

*We would like to thank parents for helping their children bring in items corresponding to the letter or theme of the week. Next week we are learning the letter "i."
