It was fun to see the children's reaction to this question. This class was split 50/50.
Toys: FP Little People Village, Mega Blocks, Vinyl Cling Decorations, puzzles,
Circle and Story Time:
Today we talked about the origin of Valentines Day in The Story of Valentines Day (which goes back to ancient Rome and a man named St. Valentine). We learned that Valentines is a day when we give hugs, kisses, make cards, or give presents to our friends and loved ones. Valentines is celebrated by other countries as well. In Finland this day is called "Friendship Day."
(Of course, we can give cards and tell people we care about them on any day--not just Valentines, like in Franklin's Valentines.)
We had fun reading a I Love You, a Rebus Poem together (which uses small pictures to help us "read" the words and guess the rhymes).
We loved the simple, fun pictures of What do you Love? The children shared with us what they loved.
Anna: Aurora pez dispenser
Ben: soccer
Dexter: Star Wars
Eva: girl Legos
Lukas: candy
Luke: daddy and mom
Maelo: Momma
Raegan: when daddy swings her and snuggles
Tanner: superheroes
Zakai: my mom
We enjoyed listening to I Love You So Much about Lola the guinea pig who wakes with "something special on the tip of her tongue" and goes through out a rather frustrating day before blurting out how much she loves her family!
The Day it A Rained Hearts, Valentine Bears and Valentine Mice. We also talked about making and giving a friendly card or Valentine.
Snack: Vegetable tray and dip, fruit tray and dip, and sugar cookies! (Children choose 2 veggies initially but most had or tried many more! What a wonderful surprise! They munched and munched on healthy vegetables and later some fruit.)
Recess:
Craft Activity: We decorated Valentines for our friends or loved ones.
